Scharding – Wolfsthal, Austria

The tails winds of Storm Ciara made our trip through Austria short but exceptionally sweet, as we nailed it along the Danube from the German border town of Passau to the Slovakian border near Bratislava. It saw our first 100-mile day, covering 107 miles with an arrange speed of 16 mph, with extremely little effort. We did need extra guy ropes for the tent though…

We entered Austria through the beautiful town of Schärding, renowned for its many multi-coloured pastel buildings, and interestingly unique and oddly placed architecture.

With the storm still providing tailwinds, and Eastern Europe and 3 days off in Budapest well within our grasp, we decided to blitz it towards the Slovakian border, stopping only for the occasional schnitzel and schwarzkaffee.
